The Discovery of Chocolate is essentially an heroic love story—love of and for chocolate, and the quest to find one’s true love.

Diego de Godoy, the story’s protagonist, is the “discoverer” of chocolate, introduces it to the Old World, is involved in many key innovations (no spoilers here), and meets a very interesting cast of characters along the way—a road that spans hundreds of years. Ultimately, however, chocolate is not enough to sustain Diego and he goes in search of his long lost (first) true love.
